Varroa mite online training options
Education and training is a key part of the National Varroa Mite Management Program. Through this program, online and face to face training is being delivered nationally, along with a range of resources, to support beekeepers and pollination-reliant industries in the management of Varroa destructor.
Varroa basics - online training
Varroa basics is a short online course to provide beekeepers with a basic introduction to Varroa, focusing on life cycle and symptoms, detection, spread, monitoring, and integrated pest management. It consists of 15 topics and a quiz.
It will be most applicable for beekeepers in areas yet to have detected Varroa in hives or where there have been recent detections.
This online training is expected to take 30 minutes to complete.

Want to learn more about managing Varroa mite in your hives?
The National Varroa mite Management Program is currently running face to face training workshops in several locations.
Each workshop is free to attend and is presented by the Program’s accredited trainers.
There are a limited number of workshops to be delivered. Participants will need to register to attend.

How to access the Introduction to Varroa Management - online training
Follow these simple steps to access the training:

Click on the ‘Browse Learning’ tab
Click ‘Introduction to Varroa Management’
Click ‘Enrol’ to start the training
You can log in and out of the training platform as needed to complete the training. It does not have to be completed in one session.

Introduction to Varroa Management is a short online course that takes beekeepers through a series of topics to help better understand Varroa and prepare for the mite.
The course covers mite monitoring and surveillance, cultural and mechanical controls, synthetic and non-synthetic chemical use, record-keeping, safety measures and more.
It consists of 9 topics with a quiz at the end of each one. A certificate of completion is available at the end of the training.
Each topic can typically be completed in 20-30 minute blocks with beekeepers able to continue and log back on at their convenience.
